Curcumin-loaded nanoparticles inhibit proliferation and migration of hepatocellular carcinoma cells

Background: Curcumin has demonstrated potential anticancer activity, but its clinical application is limited by poor solubility and bioavailability. Nanoparticle-based delivery may improve its cellular activity.Methods: Hepatocellular carcinoma cells were treated with free curcumin or curcumin-loaded nanoparticles. Cell viability, proliferation, migration, and apoptosis were evaluated.Results: Curcumin-loaded nanoparticles produced greater inhibition of cellular proliferation and migration than free curcumin and increased apoptotic activity.Conclusion: Nanoparticle-mediated delivery may enhance the anticancer activity of curcumin against hepatocellular carcinoma cells.
